N5 is for beginners with around 150-300 hours of study. N4 requires 300-600 hours. N3 is intermediate (600-950 hours). N2 is for upper-intermediate (1,600-2,800 hours), and N1 is advanced (3,000+ hours).

How often is the JLPT held?

The JLPT is held twice a year, in July and December, in many countries around the world. Some locations may only offer the December test.
